Multi-Degree Program at Virginia Tech

The Simultaneous Degree program offers a dynamic combination of disciplines that provides two master’s degrees in two distinct areas. If pursued separately, these degrees would require at least three years to complete. By taking advantage of shared credits, a simultaneous degree student will earn two master’s degrees in two years.
Individuals who should consider applying are seeking to combine business/operations management skills with more advanced knowledge in these fields. The curriculum is a blend of classroom instruction, field trips, and instructional laboratories. These programs provide opportunities to network within two departments, expanding your network significantly, and providing the chance to interact with employers in the selected specialized areas.
Students within this program are expected to be self-motivated, independent thinkers. While the program is set up with a handful of courses that count toward both degrees, there is still some additional work load beyond each program individually.
The student is responsible for creating their own plans of study within the given frameworks of the program. These plans will be unique to each student and have to meet the approval of both departments.
How does it work?
The Graduate School allows a student to share a portion of credits from one degree with another degree. This means that credits taken for required MBA classes may count towards the degree requirements of the official partner program. Due to the uniqueness of the program and each student’s individual plan of study, we recommend you speak with the MBA office prior to applying to this program.
